David Lee Truss migrated from Alabama to New York City with his three brothers and two sisters, carrying a deep love for music and singing. Known for his soulful performances, he could often be found captivating audiences at The Boston Road Ballroom or entertaining crowds across the Bronx. Alongside his two older brothers, Richard T. and Willie "Bubba" Truss, David also owned a record shop in the Bronx, a hub for music lovers in the community.
Many remember the iconic song "Dirty Work" by Steely Dan, immortalized in the film The Graduate starring Dustin Hoffman. But here’s the truth: David Lee Truss sang this song long before Steely Dan ever did. His rendition was unforgettable, and his artistry undeniable.
I’ve included the song and a photo of Uncle Dave with the Prime Minister of the Bahamas.
Take a look. Listen. Reflect. YOU BE THE JUDGE.
